Japanese has five vowels, which are represented by “a”, “i”, “u”, “e” and “o” in romaji. Here’s one thing you have to keep in mind:

“a” is always “ㄚ.”
“i” is always “ㄧ.”
“u” is always “ㄨ.”
“e” is always “ㄝ.”
“o” is always “ㄛ.”

If you are familiar with English, you sometimes might want to read “e” as like “ㄧ,” “a” like “ㄟ,” “u” like “ㄩ,” or “i” like “ㄞ,” but in romanized Japanese such a way of reading never occur. For example, “ue (上面)” is “ㄨㄝ,” and never reads “ㄩㄝ.”
